South Impact - Towards tomorrow (2019) – The globalization of hardcore
20 years after the first demo, with a few EPs and only one album released, veteran band South Impact bestows on us a second full-length album. Towards Tomorrow is the name of the piece that exudes hardcore punk with whispers of Californian Thrash. The attitude, sonority and design could not be more American, but make no mistake, this is French.
There are twelve typical hardcore tracks to be played in small sizzling arenas, where a handful of furious members of the audience take turns on stage divings that land in wild mosh pits. Songs like At War With Myself, Pledge of the Past, Towards Tomorrow appeal to aggression through quick riffs and screaming vocals. Songs like Believe, The Game, Back Together embark on deeper sonorization of the diffused and striated Thrash Metal riffs. In the merger between the two styles (which gives rise to the famous crossover genre) appear tracks like Pas Si Differents and Field of Ruins, balancing fury with groove.
Bringing home bruises designed during the South Impact show is not only a must, its a right for anyone who wants to fully appreciate the elements of a hardcore show. The sound does not bring great news (only its origin), but in the insanity of the mosh pit, it is the old school spirit that sets the rules.
