Slumlord – Preview of Hell (2018) – Not a preview Slumlord opens hell itself
I´m not into appealling to stigmata, but sometimes it's hard to believe that canadian serenity gives rise to so much furious band. Slumlord is one of those and "Preview of Hell" is their second album that exudes Hardcore / Deathcore filled with industrial elements. If it is your first time with them follow the caveat: fasten your sit belt before take off.
We are facing a real musical kinesthesia that takes place in 14 short tracks (no one get more than 3 minutes). Like every good hardcore song the talk is done right to the face, just an insane succession of riff over riff, with a vibration that astound the senses. POH that opens the album begins in moderation (a warm-up for the war that will take place?) only to burst into death metal cadence. The vocal is made into furious howls by someone the just dont have time to waste. With an amazing drumbeat filled with typical hardcore tempo changes associated with grooved thrash riffs we have the explosive formula of a mosh pit full of blood, Heathers for example will provoke a carnage when played live. Tracks like Committed Soul, Into Bone and Wretch make you drench with sweat. You got a break only in the ominous interlude Depths Of The North (just enought time to go grab yourself another beer). Ritual takes up the aggressiveness showing the drone-industrial side of the album, the drone footprint bursts into crushing death metal screams. The experience is so intense that when we least expect it we are listening to the last track Patiently Waiting that has a pintch of chaotic black metal.
"Preview of Hell" does not anticipate hell at all, it is already the south of heaven itself in all its magnitude in a true musical feast. Listening to Slumlord is the best way to release your demons, just dont go insane. I have not heard anything better in 2018.
