GWAR - The Blood of Gods (2017)

The exchange of singer is one of the most troubled moments of any band, after all the frontman is one of the biggest elements of identification for the trademark created by the group, it is the conductor who gives face to the music. Gwar had to undergo this process after the death of Oderus Urungus in 2014. Behold, in 2017, after a 4 year hiatus, the group released the first album under the new direction of bassist Blothar The Berserker.

The restructuring did not change the comic vein of Gwar, but reinforced the weight; "The Blood of Gods" has the attitude of metal added to the sticky seduction of Hard Rock. Pattern diversification, however, remains. Some songs have a more traditional footprint like the opening War On Gwar and the Viking Death Machine (that last one remembers Motorhead in a radiophonic humor). Others invest in Thrash punch like The Sordid Soliloquy of Sawborg Destructo, Crushed by the Cross and the exciting Auroch. From the "exotic planet" we have The President with wind instruments lending the festive mood the music.

Also noteworthy is Phantom Limb, a beautiful tribute to Oderus Urungus, in more serious tone, we hear the cry of the clown in lines like "The hammer so heavy, The work is so hard, The chains that bound us together, Left us all scarred , The burden is greater, Since we lost your voice ". The AC / DC cover does not reinvent the wheel and does not kill it, it's actually more self-assertion to discredit the GWAR: If You Want Blood (You Got It).

By the fact the GWAR invests heavily in the visual, sometimes the music is underestimated. For those who believed that the band would sum up after the passing of Oderus Urungus, Gwar shakes the dust and gives the blood to keep the musical legacy of Oderus Urungus alive and full of quality.
