Steel Raiser - Acciaio (2019) - The usual traditional (or the classic traditional)
The Italian Sicilians, Steel Raiser, have just released their fifth studio album. In this new endeavor, everything sounds like the true traditional heavy metal and awakens the preconceived ideas that spring up when one thinks of musicians dressed in leather rinding noisy Harley-Davidson motorbikes. Note for example the names of some tracks: Heavy Metal Hero, The King of the Night, Highway Eagle, Spirits of Vengeance, Up the Fist. Every word used to illustrate the sweaty-muscle-Conan-like-warrior form Heavy Metal is described above.
Trying to explain the Steel Raiser is to try to put in phrases the sound of heavy metal as a whole (and for the readers who manage to get here in the second paragraph this is to bring sand to the beach). The standard formula is of impetuous riffs, low-pitch vocals that get high during transitions, great chorus that calls up for erected pulses and for unison screaming-audience-voices punctuated by allegorical solos. If you still do not understand, go listen to Grave Digger, turn up the volume whenever you hear a falsetto, when the windows begin to crack it´s a sign the you are starting to understand. Some songs are ahead of the curve and stand out as Rising Phoenix, Man of Rage and the carol Wherever that serves to make the audience turn on the cellphone lights, to sing along holding the device up high and after that to check any missing call.
Individuals who wake up at the same time every day, do the same activities, watch the same type of movies, eat in the same restaurant and sleep at the same time, Steel Raiser can be a good choice to liven up the routine without causing uncomfortable shocks. But if you long for more, for difference, for innovation, go look for bands outside Italy.
