Celeste - Infidèle (2017) - Avalanche of psychological aggression
"Infidèles(s)" is Celeste's fifth album of French sludge metal. Keeping to the unique artistic standard, in this album resorted again to the feminine symbolism in the usual monochromatic tone. However, more important than creating a fascinating artistic signature is to produce quality music compatible to this signature, and in this assignment Celeste hitted the bulls-eyes once again.
Sung in their native language the album invests in a saturating sonority with strained melodies, full of anguish. Cette chute brutale introduces all of Celeste's music strength, the opulent guitars convey the sense of urgency, imminent fury, propped up by Johan's ripped vocals. The accelerated pace of Comme des amants en reflet followed by Tes amours noirs illusoires maintains the continuous musical flow, propelling the listener to the sonorous slaughtering of the Infidèle (s). In a few moments the drummer Royer has to accelerate the musical time in order to follow the impulses imposed by the strings´s rhythm, songs like Sombres Sont Tes Déboires has an approach almost Black / Death metal and À La Gloire Du Néant starts with in a double drums pedals approach. The only lyrical rest is the instrumental (I), which despite the straightforward structure takes off for a journey between textures created by the band. Sans coeur et sans corps sucks the last remnants of energy from the listeners to wind up in the same violent vitality that began.
"Infidèle(s)" in its uniform pattern carries the listener to a parallel plane of existence. This new modality of existence is suffocating, resounding and full of degrading feelings that only quality music can convey. Everything that you look for when deciding to resort to the dirties of the sludge metal, you find in Infidèle (s).
