Moreno – Nuevos Mitos (2017) – Argentine stoner that would make Pappo proud
"Nuevos Mitos" is the third full-length album released by the argentinean band Moreno. Any pleasing stoner rock that runs away from the usual and sings in spanish have more than enought reason to be appreciated. The enticing disc cover habors 8 tracks that bring up a balanced heavy rock with the buzz-distortion sound typical of stoner rock.
Los Inmortales kicks off in a potent and grooved way, the vocal of Mariano Morero softens the melodic rigidity that emanates from the distorted riffs. In a few short moments, the flexibility of sound opens up space for clarity, with clean strings and calm vocals that border psychedelia. Dos Días s begins with the stunning drums of Martin Sosa that introduces the most rock'n roll riffs of the album that reach the climax with in the screaming chorus of "... Fire". The work of bassist Nacho Telleria is higlighted on Dopamina, who has Lemmy´s aura whipping speed up the sound. The band's versatility is evidenced by the heavy metal influences in both heaviness-distortion and cadence of El Ancho, as well by the seminal doom metal (early age of Black Sabbath) influences in the groove-melodic sounds of Fauns.
Without hiding their origins, Moreno creates a sound that, although obvious, is nevertheless captivating. Our brothers southest of the border have always produced quality rock and we cannot talk about heavy argentinian´s sound without mentioning the legendary Pappo. If he were alive, that album would be certainly on repeat mode of his record player.
